What Is A Healthy Heart Rate For Children?
The heartbeat of a child changes rapidly and many times during a normal day. While irregular heartbeats in children are not a concern, many children have Arrthymia, or abnormal heartbeats, a strong indicator of an ailment or heart defect. It is important to know how to check your child’s pulse.
While there are machines and palm size devices available in the market, you may not have access to them if you are outside, for example. Taking a pulse is not difficult, and it is recommended that all parents learn how to do it.
Taking the Pulse of an Infant
The pulse of a baby may be very weak, so we need to take the pulse at a point where the pressure is stronger. This is usually a spot in the upper arm. Use two of your fingers, not the thumb, and hold them there until you feel a pulse. Keep your fingers there and start counting. Make sure the infant does not fidget or move around until you are done. Do this for fifteen seconds and multiply the beats by four
Taking the Pulse of a Child
Unlike a baby, a child understands what the parent wants to do. Ask your kid to stretch out his arm. Put your fingers on his wrist. The precise point is nearest to the thumb on the inside of the wrist. Count up to fifteen and multiply the beats by four. A child’s heart rate is very difficult to determine what is normal for him. You may like to consult your doctors to find out more.
When You Should Take A Child’s Pulse
There are many instances where a parent needs to take a child’s pulse frequently. Your child could have a temporary condition or long- term illness. Also, if your child suddenly has rapid heartbeats you may not even notice if you don’t have any idea of his normal pulse. Parents also need to do this when the child has fainted, or is breathless, or has chest pain.
